Rebirth of the Villaroche flight test center

The aerodrome of Melun-Villaroche has had an eventful history : after serving as an air base for the French Air Force at the beginning of the Second World War, it has successively served as an airfield for the Luftwaffe which will make it a field of flight during the Battle of Britain, then at Liberation, for the US Army. The aerodrome then became a flight test center for several French aircraft manufacturers including Dassault Aviation and prorotypes such as the Mystery or the 1st Mirages were tested there until the 1980s. The European Propulsion Company developed until the 1990s the engines of the Ariane rocket.

The base then experienced several years of inactivity before its potential was rediscovered in the 2000s through the implementation of civilian aeronautical activities.

L'aérodrome de Melun-Villaroche a connu une histoire mouvementée : après avoir servi de base aérienne pour l'armée de l'air française au début de la Seconde Guerre mondiale, il a successivement servi d'aérodrome pour la Luftwaffe qui en fera un champ de vol pendant La bataille d'Angleterre, puis à la Libération, pour l'armée américaine. L'aérodrome est alors devenu un centre d'essais en vol pour plusieurs fabricants d'avions français, y compris Dassault Aviation et des prorotypes tels que le Mystère ou le 1er Mirages ont été testés jusque dans les années 1980. La Société Européenne de Propulsion (SEP) a ensuite développé jusque dans les années 90 les moteurs de la fusée Ariane.

La base a depuis connu plusieures années d'inactivité avant que son potentiel n'ait été redécouvert dans les années 2000 par le développement d'activités technologiques et aéronautiques civiles.
